Allen County Coroner’s Office has identified a man who was killed in a shooting on the city’s southwest side.
The coroner says that 29-year-old Tomthy Coats’ death on February 27 was a homicide.
The following was released:
On Monday, February 27th, 2023, the Allen County Coroner’s Office was notified of a
shooting in the 13000 block of Ledgestone Place, in Fort Wayne. First responders transported the victim to a local hospital and later he was pronounced deceased.
The victim was identified as Timothy Leroy Coats, 29, male, Black of Fort Wayne. Notification has been made to the next of kin and an autopsy has been completed. The Cause of Death has been determined to be Gunshot Wound of Head and the Manner of Death is ruled a Homicide. Timothy L. Coats is the 8th Homicide for Allen County for 2023.
This incident is under investigation by the Allen County Police Department, the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Allen County Coroner’s Office.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – The Allen County Sheriff’s Department says that one person was critically injured in a shooting on Fort Wayne’s southwest side Monday night.
Police say it happened at the Ledgestone Town Homes of State Road 14 just before midnight.
Police didn’t release many details but said that they believe the victim and the suspect were at some kind of gathering before the shooting occurred.
Officials say the shooter took off on foot but was located and apprehended a few hours later.
The Allen County Sheriff’s Department released the following:
On February 27, 2023, at 11:59 P.M., officers with the Allen County Sheriff’s Department responded to a shooting in the 13700 block of Ledgestone Place.
Upon arrival, officers and medics located one adult male with critical injuries. The male was transported to a local hospital where he remains in critical condition.
A preliminary investigation indicated that the suspect and victim were at a residence attending a small gathering before the shooting occurred. The suspect fled before police arrived.
The suspect was located nearly three hours later, south of Allen County. The suspect is in police custody.
