Guilty plea, no prison for grandpa in toddler’s cruise ship death

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (ADAMS) – The South Bend grandfather who lost hold of his granddaughter on a cruise ship in Puerto Rico will not spend any time in prison for her death.
Salvatore “Sam” Anello pleaded guilty to negligent homicide in Puerto Rico yesterday.

His lawyers say the plea deal does not require him to admit any facts in the case or spend any time behind bars.

Anello will serve his probation in Indiana. Anello’s granddaughter, Chloe, fell to her death through an open window on the ship in July of 2019.
