Local teachers joining others for massive rally at Indiana capitol

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Schools in Fort Wayne are not planning to close when teachers head to the Indiana capitol for what’s becoming a massive rally. Instead, some local schools are opting for “walk-ins” and asking the public to join them in solidarity.

Teachers in both Fort Wayne and Allen County schools yesterday joined the growing list of teachers who are vowing to take part in the Red for Ed Action Day at the Capitol on November 19.

30 school districts across the state are canceling classes so that teachers can attend, including Indianapolis Public Schools.

Over 7,000 Hoosier teachers are registered to attend Red for Ed Action Day. The Indiana State Teachers Association is organizing the event, which will call on lawmakers to address issues that teachers and school staff face.
