Woman found dead after reported fire – not related to the blaze

The Allen County Coroner released the following regarding the victim:

“On Friday, June 21, 2019 the Allen County Coroner’s Office was contacted and advised of a
fire investigation, located in the 100 block of West Concord Lane, Fort Wayne, Allen
County, Indiana. Fort Wayne Fire Fighters, while checking the apartment house for
additional fire, located a deceased person in one of the apartments, which was not involved in the fire. The Allen County Coroner’s Office was requested on scene for assistance in the
death investigation. The next of kin of Tracy Dawn Ward, Female White 46 years of age,
from Fort Wayne, Indiana, was contacted and advised of the death. The Manner of Death has been determined to be Natural and not related to the fire investigation.”


ORIGINAL STORY(June 21, 2019):

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Local fire officials say that one person was found dead in a fire on the city’s south side.
The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a reported apartment fire at 112 West Concord Ln. When crews arrived they found a fire showing from the second floor apartment in a kitchen area.
While searching the other apartments in the structure, a deceased victim was found in apartment 110 West Concord Ln.

One person was inside the apartment where the fire was reported at the time of the fire but was able to get out.
No other injuries were reported.

FWFD officials say the victim found deceased does not appear to be related to the fire which was brought under control in 9 minutes.

The Allen County Coroner’s Office should conduct an autopsy to determine how the victim died.

The fire remains under investigation.
