Peru man dies in Wabash County crash

LARGO, Ind. (ADAMS) – Officials say that on Monday, at approximately 2:25 p.m., officers from the Indiana State Police and the Wabash County Sheriff’s Department responded to a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 24 near County Road 300 East, in which a Peru man died.

The preliminary crash investigation by Indiana State Police Senior Trooper Jeremy Perez revealed that Timothy Martin, 48, Peru, IN was driving a 2018 Yun motor scooter eastbound on U.S. 24 near Wabash County Road 300 East. Stephanie Smith, 28, Andrews, IN was driving a 2003 Subaru eastbound on U.S. 24 near County 300 East. For a yet to be determined reason, The Subaru rear-ended the scooter, ejecting Martin.

Martin, who was not wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene. Smith was not injured.
