R. Kelly’s former bodyguard says he regrets not intervening when he witnessed the singer’s alleged sexual abuse.

A former member of R. Kelly’s inner circle is speaking out to People about the sexual abuse he says he witnessed after Thursday’s debut of the Lifetime docuseries Surviving R. Kelly.

“I am the type to try to protect, and I feel bad that I maybe didn’t do enough,” says Gem Pratts, who was not only Kelly’s bodyguard but also his childhood friend and ex-brother-in-law. (Pratts’ sister, Andrea “Drea” Kelly, was married to the R&B star until 2009.)

“I look back now and just wish I had seen more and was able to do more. It kind of tugs at me.” Pratts also hinted that Kelly slept with minors on tour. “We went on tours to Europe, [where the] legal age is 16,” he explains. “So we were gone a lot and I did see that.”
