Vacant home damaged by Monday morning fire

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Fort Wayne Fire Department officials say that a vacant home on St. Joe Center Road sustained moderate damage in a Monday morning fire.

After being called just before 8 a.m., crews had to shut down the roadway for around an hour while they battled the blaze.

The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to the report of a structure fire at 6314 St. Joe Center Road. The first unit on the scene found a one story home with smoke coming from the roof and windows. The crew pulled a hand line to search the home for occupants and attack the fire. Other crews arrived and assisted in controlling the fire. After a search it was determined the house was vacant with no occupants. The fire was located in a back room addition that had burned through the floor and into the crawl space. The fire was under control in 20 minutes. No injuries were reported. St. Joe Road was closed for an hour because of hose that blocked the road.
