Coroner rules woman’s cause, manner of death at motel as drowning

UPDATE (July 16, 2021):

We now know what caused the death of a woman at a local motel in May.

Following her death, the coroner released the woman’s identity but stopped short of determining her cause of death or the manner

At the time, the report said that more tests were needed to figure out how 35-year-old Tiffany Ferris died.

According to another report released in early July, Ferris’s death was a homicide by drowning.

The final autopsy report was released this Friday and determined that the cause and manner of her death were both drowning.

The Allen County Coroner’s Office released the following:

The final autopsy has been received reference the death of Tiffany I. Ferris, Female White 35 years of age, from Decatur, Indiana, who was found deceased at the Suburban Extended Stay Hotel, 3320 West Coliseum Boulevard, on May 10, 2021.
This case was originally reported as Cause and Manner as Pending.
The Cause of Death has been determined to be Consistent with Drowning and the Manner of Death is Homicide.
Tiffany I. Ferris is the 23rd Homicide in Allen County for 2021.

We now know what caused the death of a woman at the Suburban Extended Stay off West Coliseum two months ago. In May, the coroner released the woman’s identity but stopped short of determining her cause of death.

According to the coroner’s report, Ferris’s death was a homicide by drowning.

34-year-old Terry Smith has been charged in connection to her death.

UPDATE (May 14, 2021):

Fort Wayne Police Department officials say that the suspect in a woman’s death has been arrested.  Officials put the word out on Thursday that they were looking for Terry Smith in connection to Tiffany Ferris’ death at the Suburban Inn on Monday. By Friday morning, officials said he had been detained.

The FWPD released the following:

Terry Smith Jr. (Male Black, age34) was arrested yesterday in Muncie, Indiana.  Fort Wayne Homicide Detectives, Vice and Narcotics Detectives and Muncie Police Officers took Mr. Smith into custody Thursday (5/13/21) without incident in relation to the Death Investigation at the Suburban (3200 W. Coliseum Blvd.) Inn on May 10th, 2021 (Monday).

Fort Wayne Police Department officials are asking for help in finding a man they believe is responsible for a woman’s death at a local hotel.
On Monday, Tiffany Ferris was found dead at the Suburban Inn off West Coliseum.

On Thursday, FWPD officials released the following:
Fort Wayne Police Department Homicide Division is asking for help in locating a suspect in the homicide of Tiffany Ferris on Monday, May 10 at the Suburban Inn in Fort Wayne.

We do believe Smith to be armed and dangerous and anyone who knows where he is located is asked to call 911 with information.

Investigators will have to wait to get answers on what happened to a woman at a local hotel this week.

Yesterday, the coroner released the woman’s identity but stopped short of determining her cause of death.

The report says that more tests need to be done to figure out how the 35-year-old woman died at the Suburban Inn on West Coliseum on Monday.

The Allen County Coroner’s Office released the following:

At about 0910 hours on May 10, 2021the Allen County Coroner’s Office was contacted and notified that the Fort Wayne Police Department and Three River Ambulance were at a death investigation scene, located at the Suburban Extended Stay Hotel, 3320 West Coliseum Boulevard.
A female white was found deceased in a hotel room and the coroner’s office was requested on scene. An autopsy has been conducted and notification has been made to the next of kin of Tiffany I. Ferris, female white 35 years of age from Decatur, Indiana. The Cause and Manner of Death are Pending, additional testing is being conducted. This continues to be investigated by the Fort Wayne Police Department, and the Allen County Coroner’s Office. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.

ORIGINAL STORY:

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – The Fort Wayne Police Department has officers trying to figure out what happened before a woman was found dead in a room at the Suburban Inn Monday morning.

Right now, they say there is not much information to go off of and they are asking for tips from the public.

FWPD officials released the following:

On May 10th, 2021 at approximately 8:45am Fort Wayne Police Department Officers responded to 3320 W. Coliseum Blvd. (Suburban Inn) in regards to an unknown problem. The police were escorted to a room in the Inn where an adult female was located deceased. At this time, it is unknown the cause and manner of death which will be released later by the Coroner’s Office; along with the deceased’s identity.
